    IGI Marriage details
On the 16th January 2008 I heard from a Christopher - "I thought you might be interested to know I am related to the Rumph family that is on your chart Setterfield 0329. Sophia Rumph's brother William (aged 8 in the 1871 census) was my great-grandfather. His father Henry died in 1872 and his mother Rose in 1900. William, who was born in Bethnal Green on 14 Sep 1862, served in the Royal Navy 1877-88, visiting Egypt and Australia amongst other places, before settling in London as a gas fitter. Around 1895-6 he married Emma Elizabeth Shapland (whose family originally came from Devon), and had a number of children including my grandfather, Harold William H Rumph, born in Islington in December 1898. Harold served in the Army during WWl before following his father as a gas-fitter, finally retiring from more than 40 service with North Thames Gas in 1963. Around 1925 he married Margaret Georgina Edwards, of Holborn, and had four daughters, the eldest being Margaret Elizabeth, my mother, born in Dagenham on 20 January 1929. Harold died in 1965, Margaret Georgina died in 1988, and my mother died in 1974"
On the 20th January 2008 I received this additional information from Christopher  - First of all, I think Henry Rumph was born around 1826 or 1827, in Germany, and not as late as 1836, which is on the chart at the moment, and his death is recorded in the Islington register for the Jan-Mar quarter of 1872, when he was aged 45. Rose Rumph (Pim) died in Edmonton in the July-Sep quarter of 1900, aged 73.
William Henry s wife, Emma Elizabeth Shapland was born in Islington, London on 18 June 1872 and died, also in Islington, on 3 July 1950. Her parents were John Shapland (1827-1878) born at Knowstone, Devon and Betsy (or Bessy) Richards, born at Carhampton, Somerset, 17 November 1834, the daughter of William and Jane Richards. Both John and Betsy died in Islington (Betsy in 1910). John Shapland s parents were John Shapland (1798-1882), born at High Bray, Devon and died in Barnstaple, Devon, and Mary (1804-1880), born in Knowstone, Devon and who also died in Barnstaple.

On 2nd December 2007 I received the following message from a Helen. I have removed the bits that possibly involve living people: I am related to your Setterfield chart no. 0329. Henry married Sophia Rumph on Christmas Day 1895. They had two children, May Sylvia born 1/10/1896 died August 1987, (the 1901 census has her name as Mary, this is wrong) and Percy William born 7/8/1898 and died 11/10/1922.
May (my grandmother) married Frederick Huskinson on 21/5/1923
    IGI Birth and Baptism
  7. 1871 Census - 57 Edward Street, Bethnal Green, London.
1891 Census - 38 Granville Buildings, Shoreditch, London.
1891 Census - 91 Winchester Street, Islington, London. There is a Betsey SHAPLAND aged 55 a widow an Office Cleaner born Somerset, with her is Emma aged 18 a Boot/Book? Finisher born Islington, so I think this is the Emma who married William, (mother from Somerset, so near to the Devon idea) also with them was a George SHAPLAND, son aged 13 a Errand Boy
1892 St Mark, Old Street, Shoreditch, London (at marriage)
1901 Census - ? Queensgate?, Barnsbury, Islington, London (this Census is a job to read, but definitely the correct family) There are two children Harold aged 3 who we know about see note 8 and a Edith Violet aged 2 both born Islington. The only problem I have is that Christopher says that Emma's family originally came from Devon, and I have on the 1901 Census Emma born in Islington, but as he says the family came from Devon it is quite possible that Emma was born in Islington.
  8. 1871 Census - 57 Edward Street, Bethnal Green, London.
1881 Census - Haberdasher Street, Hoxton New Town, Shoreditch, London
1891 43 Alma Street, Shoreditch, London. Child Henry aged 1 born Shoreditch, London.
1901 65 Haselbury Road, Edmonton, Middlesex. Children Henry W aged 11 born Hoxton, London, Sophia R aged 7 born Hoxton, London, Mildred aged 4 born Hoxton, London and Frederick aged 10 months born Edmonton, Middlesex.
1911 65 Hazelbury Rd, Upper Edmonton, Edmonton, Middlesex, Mildred is down as having been married 21 years and having had 5 children all of whom survive at the date of this Census. All the children are with them as follows, Henry aged 21 an Assistant Draper born Hoxton, Middlesex, Sophia aged 17 a Machinist Drapery born Hoxton, Middlesex, Mildred aged 14 a Machinist Blouse born Hoxton, Middlesex, Frederick aged 10 School born Edmonton, Middlesex and Rose aged 8 born Edmonton, Middlesex.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
