1871 Elson, Alverstoke, Hampshire. With the family was a Harriet MATTHEWS down as a visitor aged 6 a scholar born Portsea, Hampshire (I believe she was a Granddaughter a child of Eliza MATTHEWS née SPARSHOTT.
1881 34 Chichester Road, Portsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. At this address is a Charlotte SPARSHOTT Sister-in-Law aged 42 born Elson, Hampshire, but then is gets difficult as then there is James MATTHEWS down as son aged 20 unmarried born Portsea, Hampshire Charlotte MATTHEWS unmarried down as daughter aged 18 born Portsea, Hampshire and Harriett MATTHEWS aged 14 down as Daughter a Scholar born Portsea, Hampshire. Then finally there is a Mary Ann SPARSHOTT a Niece aged 8 a Scholar born Elson, Hampshire. Because she has puts her self down as Sister-in-Law I believe she is exactly that to James, Charlotte and Harriett and they are in fact children of her sister Eliza and son and daughters of Eliza not Charlotte who as her Probate states died a spinster and therefore if by some chance they had been her children they would have had the name SPARSHOTT). I have now found Edward and Eliza on the 1881 Census so why were the children not with them.  (I have not as yet found where the niece Mary Ann SPARSHOTT aged 8 fits in, she does not at present appear on the three SPARSHOTT charts on from this one, which if she was a niece she should. (Have now found MATTHEWS family on the 1871 Census, this proves my thoughts that they were their children.
1911 Heatherlands, London Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Eliza MATTHEWS was head a Widow she had had 9 children 4 survive and 5 had died at the date of ths Census, she was a Widow, down as being born in Elson, Hampshire with her was Edward MATTHEWS son aged 56 a Widower who had had one 1 child who survives at the date of this Census, He has ut himself down as being born in Portsmouth Hampshire and signs the Census form as E J W MATTHEWS so confirming I have the correct family. His child Hetty MATTHEW down as Granddaughter aged 21 born Portsmouth, Hampshire, so assumed is wife who died in 1889 died in childbirth. Also confirming I have the correct family, there is a Charlotte SPARSHOOT down as sister aged 72, so correctly sister of Eliza MATTHEWS the Head, she is down as being born in Elson Hampshire . All of their occupation are shown as "Private Means"
1918 SPARSHOTT Charlotte of Heatherlands, London-road North End Portsea Portsmouth spinster died 3 April 1918 Probate London 26 April to Edward James William Matthews gentleman. Effects £54 13s. 4d. (National Probate Calendar)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
