Mrs Wilton gave this child the name Len. She said that "Len and his wife died in the Blitz in London" However, we have not found a "Len" and from information received from Jean and Jarvis BUNCE we think the "Blitz" information belongs to this couple
    Comment from Jean WHEATON
I do wonder about this – whether it is just a “family story”. There was an Ernest A death March quarter 1955 in Lambeth District age 66....and for an Agnes December quarter 1947 Lambeth District age 53. Any way – other than buying certificates – of finding out?
    Comment from John Terry
From the various people who have given us information for this chart we were told that one of the couples above died in an air raid in WWII, the only possible couple  would have been Ernest Arthur and Annie above, but I have found the information with I have now added to this couple which seems to suggest that is was not them. As you can see from the comment from my sister above it was possibly one a "family story"
  6. 1892 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Florence)
1901 Census - The Village, Cranleigh, Surrey
1911 High Park Cranleigh, Cranleigh, Surrey. Servant of Cecil WILSON (35) Artist Painter born London, his wife Maude L (37) born London and visitors Ernest Claude THOMAS (25) born Rhyl, Wales and Ida Warrand JACKSON (34) Dispenser born Brentford, Middlesex both single. Another servant was Hannah May WALLER (16) House Maid Domestic born Cranleigh, Surrey, Florence's sister.
1915 Ewhurst Road, Cranleigh, Surrey (at marriage) We had 9th August for this marriage but certificate deifnitely says 19th it also shows date as 1916 but the date on the top left hand corner says 1915, the certificate above was in 1914 and the following one on the next page is in 1915 so I feel the 1916 on the certificate is incorrect.
    Information from Mrs Winifred WILTON
Mrs Winifred WILTON née COBB was a bridesmaid in white dress and pink sash. She was "better off than other child"
  7. 1894 Cranleigh, Surrey (baptism of Hannah May)

    Information from Mrs Evelyn WEST

Information from Mrs Winifred WILTON née COBB
"May and Charlie lived in Slinfold. They were very poor and cooked on a fire of twigs in the garden".
Information from BUNCE family is that May was married to Sid HOWICK
Information received states that there were "several children". "The eldest boy was Sydney, then John, a girl, then others". "All children were put into care".
Above information was received from descendants of John WALLER and Harriet STEMP. The following was received at a much later date. Just an indication of how there is a grain of truth in family stories, even if not the whole truth!
Information from Angela PATTENDEN 22 April 2006
After the death of their mother Sidney and Percy stayed with their father
    Ronald stayed with an Aunt
Phyllis was taken in by a Doctor
Gordon was sent to a children's home.
The boys were reunited some years later but Phyllis I presume stayed with the Doctor and may have been adopted because we have been unable to trace her

Bertha and her husband had two children. Her sister Olive’s daughter, Eva (Evelyn WEST), lived with Bertha for a while. Olive left Bertha her gold watch. We originally had on this chart two further children put on because of comments made by people who knew this family. However on the 1911 Census Mary Ann West WALLER née NOTTRIDGE says she had had 10 children and the chart shows all of these so I have removed the two additional children. One just said ??? WALLER died in infancy, but as all ten children were alive in 1911 we do not think there was another child and the other said Jack WALLER occupation Butler, married Gertie??? whose occupation was a Cook. The Comments in the Notes for him were
“They all married, so he must have done”. Comment from Mrs. Winifred WILTON
Information from Mrs Evelyn WEST: “Used to rush around on a motor cycle and was a bit of a problem to his parents. He eventually married a flapper”.
Information from Jarvis and Douglas BUNCE: Lived in London and retired to Southall.
We can only think that one of the boys on the chart above was known as Jack or one of the husbands of the girls was known as Jack, which of course would mean one of the girls was known as Gertie.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
