1880 Norwalk Township, Huron County, Ohio, USA
Living with him was Sarah RYDER (60) Housekeeper and her daughter Lilla (19) Servant
Sarah RYDER was previously Sarah WHEATON, wife of John WHEATON. John and his wife Sarah CLARK, went to America in the late 1830s from Cambridgeshire, England, the area in which Daniel originated. They must be related, but as yet we have not found the evidence.
We believe that John's father, another John, was Daniel's eldest brother. This other John and his wife Ann also went to America in 1841/1842.
10/2/2010/ We have now received information from Sarah RYDER’s obituary which appears
to confirm the relationship of her husband to Daniel WHEATON

Extract from “The Firelands Pioneer - Norwalk, its men, women and girls”
Daniel WHEATON who came to Norwalk in 1851, died there about two years ago, a respected and well-to-do citizen. There were eight boys and girls in his family, some of whom were schoolmates of mine, and with all of whom I was at one time more or less intimately acquainted. Dennis, a prosperous business man, lived in Cleveland; Charles, whose wife was Annie HOYT a daughter of Agur B., lives on the WHEATON place on the Old State road; Robt., who married Betsey GRAVES was accidentally killed, while gunning, some twenty years or more ago; Leonard, who had a natural heart for the stage, and who married Rose, daughter of Jacob C. BUSH- a girl as pretty as was her name - has been dead several years; Emma, widow of John WATKINS who succeeded Capt. DEWALDT in the hotel business, resides in Norwalk: Susan, who became the wife of Eli HOYT son of Agur B., has been dead a number of years; Kate, whose husband is Mr W H PRICE the capitalist, makes her home in Norwalk.
    From Commemorative Biographical Records
Among the leading business men of Norwalk none holds higher rank than this well-known gentleman, who is a son of Robert and Catherine (White) WHEATON
Robert WHEATON who was one of four brothers-Philip, William, John and Robert- was born in 1784, in Huntingdonshire, England, near Cambridge, and was a successful butcher and farmer, keeping four teams constantly at work. He died in 1848, the mother passing away at the age of eighty years.
Daniel WHEATON was born the second Monday of January, 1814, in Huntingdon, England, the second youngest of his father’s family, and is the only one now living. He grew to manhood in his native land, there following the butcher business as well as agricultural pursuits. He was united in marriage, March 25, 1835, with Miss Ann MEHEW who was born in 1816, also in Huntingdon, England. In November 1851, they came to America, first locating in Monroeville, Ohio, and three months later moving to Norwalk, where they resided for three years. He followed his trade for some time after settling here, then purchased a farm, but continued the butcher business until about the year 1863, when his sons took entire charge. Since then the father has managed the farm; formerly he owned ninety-two acres, but now has eighty-eight acres.
He erected the WHEATON block in the business portion of the city, and owns the WEBBER block, the Chronicle block (part of which he built) and seven houses in the place, besides three brick buildings in the village of Huron. He has taken two thousand and one dollars worth of stock in the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad, and was also an original stockholder in the Norwalk Metal Spinning and Stamping Company; he was the first man to put plate glass in Norwalk. Mr WHEATON is a Democrat in politics, and in religion he is a member of the Baptist Church, with which his wife was also identified. Mrs WHEATON died March 16, 1878, and since then the home has been cared for by relatives. The children born to Mr. and Mrs. WHEATON have been as follows: David, born in April, 1836, in Erith, England, died in 1844; Emma A (Mrs WATKINS] born in May 1837; Dennis E, born June 17, 1838 (a butcher in Cleveland); Charles H, born February 5, 1840 (also a butcher in Cleveland); Susan A (wife of Eli HOYT] born July 17, 1841, died September 6, 1889; Hannah L, wife of John PERRIN born January 2, 1844; Robert A., born March 16 1847, died November 25, 1868; Catherine, wife of W H PRICE born November 30, 1849; Ada E, born March 5, 1853 (died October 14
    Obituary of Daniel WHEATON
    DANIEL WHEATON DEAD
An Old Resident Well Known in Huron County Gone
Death has taken another of Huron county's old citizens, Daniel E WHEATON of the Old State Road, passed to his reward on Monday, October 10th. His age was about 85 years. Mr WHEATON is survived by two sons, D. E. WHEATON of Cleveland and C. H WHEATON of Norwalk, and three daughters, Mrs  W. H. Price, Mrs J. F. Perrin and Mrs Emma Watkins all of Norwalk. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 o'clock  from his late home.
Daniel E. Wheaton was born in Huntingdonshire, England in 1813. He came to America in 1851 and almost directly to Norwalk where he resided and carried on the meat business for three years. At the end of that time he bought the farm on the Old State Road where he has lived ever since and where he has in days gone by dispensed the happy and most cordial entertainment, peculiar to the English people.
He was married to Elizabeth Mehew who died 20 years ago. Ten children were born to them, five of whom are living.
Mr Wheaton in politics was a staunch Democrat, although he has taken no active interest in politics for sine years.
His home was the greatest spot on earth for him and there he was wont to gather his children and grandchildren about him for happy reunions.
During his life he accumulated a goodly amount of this world's goods and as a consequence left a large estate. In his death Huron County has lost another of its older citizens and older men.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
