Does this apply to this John? The actual image of the passenger list is practically impossible to read. My brother John TERRY has worked at enhancing the page and believes that nos 76 and 77 are definitely a John and Ann and that their surname ends in "...ATON".
However, there is no Ann WHEATON on the Mississippi in the index
But...when doing a search on WHEATON and Mississippi it shows that John WHEATON and June WHEATON Age 65 were passengers. We believe, therefore, that this could be the right John, and that his wife has been wrongly indexed. More research required.

REASONS FOR INCLUSION OF JOHN WHEATON IN THIS FAMILY
There were three families of WHEATONs in the counties of Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire. It is not a common name and it seemed more than likely that all three were connected - if only we could find the connections! We have been searching for links since 1983.
Dennis WHEATON's family begins the earliest with a marriage in 1726 and Robert WHEATON was a descendant. Robert baptised two daughters in the parish church but none of his other children; they were only identified as belonging to him because he mentioned them in his will. He did not mention a John.
    However,
A John WHEATON was a witness to the marriage of Robert's eldest daughter
John WHEATON, the son of the John WHEATON for whom these notes are being written, went to County Huron, Ohio in 1840 followed by his father in 1843.
Robert WHEATON had a son Daniel who in 1851 (after the death of his father) went to America, settling in Norwalk, County Huron, Ohio.
John WHEATON, the son of the John WHEATON for whom these notes are being written, married a Sarah CLARKE. After her first husband's death Sarah married a Joseph RIDER/RYDER and became the Housekeeper to Daniel WHEATON in Norwalk, County Huron, Ohio.
In Daniel's original Will a legacy was left to Sarah Clarke Wheaton RIDER. However she died before Daniel so a codicil changed the Will to include a bequest to her daughter.
One of Daniel's sons was called Leonard, and a Leonard WHEATON was a witness at the marriage of one of Sarah Clarke Wheaton RIDER's children
And on the 2nd February 2010, through Carol HOLLY who had written to Barbara WHEATON (married to a descendant of this John), we received details of Sarah Clark Wheaton RIDER's obituary where it describes her as the cousin of Daniel WHEATON.
    Some clarifications....
After Robert WHEATON's first two children were christened in a Church of England we believe that he became an important supporter of the Baptist Church in Bluntisham so the rest of his children were not christened in the Parish Church.
This John died between 1843 and 1850 so it could be that he had died before Robert wrote his Will which explains why he was not included.
Daniel was actually the Uncle of the John who married Sarah CLARKE and so she would have been his niece by marriage. However, Daniel was born in 1814 and John in 1815 so they probably considered themselves cousins and described themselves as such to others which was why "cousin" was the relationship used in Sarah's obituary.
In the light of the foregoing we have now included John WHEATON as a son of Robert WHEATON and Catherine WHITE
In 2012 the DNA results for Dennis Ian WHEATON indicated that he was not a WHEATON but a WETTON from Staffordshire.
In 2013 the DNA results for one of John WHEATON’s descendants indicated that he was not a WHEATON, but a WETTON from Staffordshire!
So, the belief that this John belonged on Den’s family tree has been proved.

  11.
  12. 1841 Fore Street, Earith, Huntingdonshire (Only David is included, no other children on census)
    1851 High Street, Earith, Huntingdonshire
1860 Norwalk Township, Huron County, Ohio, USA. Living with them was Thomas GRIFFIN (23) born Ireland
1870 Norwalk Township, Huron County, Ohio, USA
1880 Norwalk Township, Huron County, Ohio, USA. Living with his was Sarah RYDER (60) Housekeeper and her daughter Lilla (19) Servant
Sarah RYDER was previously Sarah WHEATON, wife of John WHEATON. John and his wife Sarah CLARK, went to America in the late 1830s from Cambridgeshire, England, the  area in which Daniel originated. They must be related, but as yet we have not found the  evidence. We believe that John's father, another John, was Daniel's eldest brother. This  other John and his wife Ann also went to America in 1841/1842.
Living next door to Daniel was the PERRIN family who had a servant, Josiah RYDER (22) born Ohio, with parents born in England, as were those of Lilla RYDER who was living with Daniel. Were they brother and sister?
  13. 1840 Bluntisham, Huntingdonshire

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
