  1. On the 1st January 2014 we connected Angel as a child of the  family on WHEATON Chart 0900, our reasoning for doing this is as follows:
My sister writes (the wife of Dennis WHEATON on WHEATON Chart 0200)
The DNA of Dennis WHEATON (WHEATON 0200), a descendant of Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW matches the DNA of a descendant of Angel’s (WHEATON 0337)....so they must have a common ancestor
.......The earliest information we have for Angel is the baptism of his son (another Angel) in 1764.
.......I therefore made Angel senior’s birth about 1739 but that is purely an approximation, he could have been born earlier.
.......There is no other information (marriage or deaths) for Angel senior and his wife Elizabeth
.......This is the reason that I think it probable that Angel was the same man as William born 1732, son of Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW         (WHEATON 0900)
.......We have a marriage for this William, and deaths for both him and his wife Elizabeth (WHEATON 0800) (See below for full explanation)
.......However, without evidence I don’t think they can be merged
.......But given the dates and location and the fact that there are no other WHEATON families in Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire at this time....
.......I think that even if William and Angel are not the same man, Angel must be a son of Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW
......Therefore, in my file, I have added Angel to the family of Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW making him child number five.
    Information added March 2002
SO WHERE DOES ANGEL FIT IN TO THE HUNTINGDONSHIRE/CAMBRIDGESHIRE WHEATON FAMILY?
Obviously I have thought about this ever since first Aaron, then later Steve and Carol, Jim and Brent contacted me as descendants of Angel WHEATON from Cambridgeshire.
I have been researching WHEATONs in the Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire areas since 1983, and I have a cousin, found through family history research, who is a professional researcher based mainly in the Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire Record Offices. She sends me all the WHEATON references she finds and so I have accumulated a considerable amount of information. My earliest WHEATON record is that of the marriage between Den's Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW in Hilton, Huntingdonshire in 1726. After that time all the WHEATONs in the two counties are descendants of Thomas, except two families, both of which went to America, that of John WHEATON and Sarah CLARKE, and that of Angel WHEATON and Elizabeth. (11/2/2010 - we have now been able to prove that the John WHEATON is part of Den's family)
It is probably possible to fit John into my WHEATON family, but we have been unable to find the baptism (estimated to be about 1739). marriage (before 1764) or burial for the earliest Angel, nor can we find the burial for his wife Elizabeth. With so much WHEATON information available, why are these details still missing? I have long considered this problem and have arrived at the following idea. There is no way this can be proved, but I thought I would share it with you.
My Thomas and his wife Ann SPARROW had four children, Ann, Elizabeth, William, who died as a baby, and a second William baptised in 1732. The mother died when William was two years old and his sisters were eight and six years of age. Father Thomas was a shepherd. How was he able to continue this occupation with such small children? It is more than likely that either a relative, or a friend looked after them because, as yet, we have not found anything in parish records which suggests they were looked after through the means of the parish.
Thomas died in 1754. Thomas's son, William, baptised 1732, was married in 1761 in Woodhurst to Elizabeth WHITTLESEY, (whose mother was Catherine ANGEL), and their first child (another William) was baptised in the same parish in 1762. The next record we have for William and Elizabeth is in 1767 in Houghton where they baptised another son, John. So, there is a gap of five years between the baptisms of William (1762) and John (1767). After the baptism of John in Houghton William and Elizabeth then moved to Somersham where their next son was baptised in 1769. William and Elizabeth were buried in Somersham in 1780 and 1802 respectively, but various WHEATON families, all descendants of Thomas and Ann SPARROW, lived in that village for the next one hundred and fifty years.
Turning to Angel and Elizabeth, the earliest record we have for them is the baptism of their son Angel in 1764 in the parish of Witton. This is the next parish to Houghton (where William and Elizabeth baptised son John in 1767), so close that in many records they are shown as "Houghton and Witton (or Wytton)". The Angel WHEATON baptised in 1764 married Mary LEAKE in Somersham in 1787, at a time when several of William and Elizabeth's children were also marrying in the Somersham parish church.
Several questions arise, one of which has already been stated, why no deaths for the earliest Angel and Elizabeth when burials for all the other WHEATONs have been found? The only Elizabeth burial at about the right time was that of Elizabeth WHEATON (née WHITTLESEY), wife of the William born 1732, son of Thomas. Given that Angel and Elizabeth's son had married in Somersham, and then lived in Chatteris, why was there no second Elizabeth WHEATON burial in either parish? By quite a long route, I then wondered if perhaps there was only one Elizabeth, that the first Angel was given his name as a nickname and thus, I arrived at the idea that maybe Angel was the same person as William, baptised in 1732, son of Thomas WHEATON and Ann SPARROW.
    So this is my story.......
When Thomas's wife died in 1734 a friend in Woodhurst possibly looked after all of Thomas's children, or maybe just the baby, William. They were Robert WHITTLESEY and his wife Catherine (née ANGEL). (In his Will Robert WHITTLESEY left money to William's son but to none of the descendants of Thomas's other children). It could be that it was at this time the baby came to be called "Angel", either perhaps because of his adoptive mother's maiden name, or because he looked like one! He grew up with the WHITTLESEYs and married Elizabeth, one of the daughters of the family, in Woodhurst where her family lived and where they ensured that his correct name, William, was used in the parish register, as they did when his son, another William, was baptised in 1762. Then William and Elizabeth moved away from Woodhurst, and when they baptised their second son, Angel, in 1764 in Witton, there were no grandparents or guardians there to remind William/Angel to use his baptismal name, so his name as father of the baby was entered as Angel. When the next child was baptised in 1767 William/Angel remembered to give his correct name, as he did for the rest of his life. This would also have been a sensible thing to do as otherwise there would have been two Angels in the family!
How does this fit in with the information we have acquired?
Angel and Elizabeth baptised their son Angel in Witton in 1764 and it is from this information that the date of birth of the father Angel was estimated as 1739. William was baptised in 1732, but as the 1764 baptism for his son Angel would, if William and Angel were the same man, have been that of a second child, it is quite possible for Angel to have been born before 1739 so that Angel and William could have been the same person.
We need to look for a marriage before 1764, but there is no Angel WHEATON/Elizabeth marriage at any time. Could the William WHEATON/Elizabeth WHITTLESEY marriage in 1761 be the one for which we are looking?
There is a gap in William WHEATON and Elizabeth (née WHITTLESEY)'s family between the baptisms of William in 1762 and John in 1767 into which the 1764 baptism of Angel WHEATON, son of Angel and Elizabeth, would fit.
William and Elizabeth's family were living in Somersham from 1769. They and their descendants were the only WHEATON family in that parish baptising children for the next one hundred and fifty years. Angel (baptised 1764 in Witton) married Mary LEAKE in Somersham in 1787, so, given that WHEATON is such an uncommon name, it would be odd if Angel did not belong to the same family.
William, the father, baptised 1732 was buried in Somersham in 1780. As we have not found a burial for Angel (the father), if Angel and William were the same man, this could be Angel's burial. Similarly, the 1802 burial for Elizabeth WHEATON, if William and Angel are the same man, this could be for Elizabeth WHITTLESEY as well as Elizabeth the wife of Angel, the father.
Angel (baptised 1764) obviously moved to Chatteris after his marriage. Of the sons of William and Elizabeth, William (baptised 1762) stayed in Somersham, John (baptised 1767) went to Earith and Colne, Robert (baptised 1772) went to Bluntisham, and Philip (baptised 1777) went to Chatteris. This is the Philip about whom information was collected by individuals researching Angel's family as they thought there might be a connection. If Angel was actually Philip's older brother this would of course explain the reason for such a belief.
Angel, the son born 1764, called his first son Thomas, possibly after his grandfather WHEATON? He called his second son William, which could be after his father if William and Angel are the same man, He then called his daughters Elizabeth, after his mother, and Mary, after his wife, and then his youngest son was called Robert. This could have been after Robert WHITTLESEY who may have acted as guardian to William/Angel whilst he was still a child and would have been the Angel (baptised 1764)'s grandfather.
The younger Angel's son, William, and his sons, John and Thomas, went to America in the late 1820s; if William (born 1762) and this Angel are the same man, nephews John (with his son John), Daniel and sons of Daniel's sister Elizabeth also went to America (in the 1840s and 1850s) as did the the daughter of the Philip mentioned above whilst it is also probable that three of her brothers made the same journey as there are no later records for them in this country.
If the foregoing was the case, then the Elizabeth WHEATON (daughter of Angel baptised 1764) who married William WHITTLESEY with Francis HIDE as witness, would have been the first cousin of the Elizabeth WHEATON (daughter of William baptised 1762), who married Francis HIDE. It would also mean that Angel's descendant, William who went to Indiana in the 1820s, would bave been the first cousin of Daniel who went to Ohio in 1851. And it could also be that the same William, who went to Indiana in the 1820s, was a cousin of the John WHEATON (married to Sarah CLARKE) who went to Ohio in the late 1840s!
    But that is another story!

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
