Will After a bequest of wearing apparel and linen to her daughter Elizabeth, wife of William WHITTLESEY, Mary left her property to her son Robert who was also the executor. Information from Croydon ONYETT 1/5/2006 The informant and present at the death of your Mary LEAKE was one Lydia GALLEY. On the 3rd. November 1867 at St. James Westminster, Middlesex, Jane GALEY, daughter of Lydia, married Charles ONYETT of Pidley. 1811 Manea, Cambridgeshire 1830 Pigot Directory 1830 People And Tradesman lists: Thomas WHEATON, Butcher, Slade End, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire 1839 Pigot Directory - 1839 People And Tradesman lists: Thomas WHEATON, Butcher, Park Street, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire 1841 Park Street, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire 1851 Park, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Also in property was Henry COOK and his wife Will - to wife Martha; household furniture, plate, pictures, china, linen and rest of personal estate - property in Manea to be sold, debts to be paid and residue to wife - property in Park Street, Chatteris to wife for her life - after decease of wife property to go to sister Elizabeth WHITTLESEY which includes 6 tenements, yard, stables, etc - £50 to brother William as long as he comes to England from America to collect it - £10 to each of the five eldest children of Richard MADDISON of Godmanchester - wife to be executor Bastardy Claim It would seem that Thomas was alleged to be the father of a Thomas Wheaton WILSON, born 6th June 1811, baptised on the 25th August 1811 in Chatteris, son of Mary WILSON. The matter went before the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Chatteris on the 8th April and the 15th July 1812. It would seem likely that no conclusion was reached about the accusation by Mary WILSON against Thomas for the result of the enquiry was "No order made herein". Also, they (Richard and Ann) clearly thought so much of Thomas that they named one of their sons Thomas Wheaton MATSON. That carried on throughout their lifetimes as Richard was an executor of their wills. There is a note in the register which states "Forbidden by William WHEATON himself 8th Jan" 1850 Scott, Vanderburgh, Indiana, USA. With Betsey, her daughter Belamy METCALF age 15, and Elizabeth DAVIS Age 6, all born England 1860 Evansville, Vandersburgh, Indiana, USA Entered and Indexed as WERTIN originally In his Will, William left money to John of Oregon, to Thomas of Indiana, to Belamy METCALF, son of his former wife, and to his wife, Elizabeth. 1841 Outwood End, March, Doddington, Cambridgeshire as WHITTLESEA. Living next door was son Thomas Information as at 5 September 2007. Living at the above address was Wm WHITTLSEA (49), Elizth (47), Elizth (14) Jn (4), Wm (28), Jn (6) and Wm (3). This seems to be William and his wife Elizabeth with children Elizabeth and John, together with this William, their eldest son (28). From the information on this census it could be that before 1841 William had married, had two children, John (1835) and William (1838) and that his wife had died before 1841. (14) born March, Cambridgeshire 1841 High Street, Somersham, Huntingdonshire 1851 Holy Road Cottages, Somersham Huntingdonshire with a lodger, John HARRUP (57). Widower, Ag Lab born Bassingborne, Cambridgeshire 1854 Somersham, Huntingdonshire 1861 "Red Lion" Beer House, Mill End, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Living with them was John ALPRESS (58) Boarder unmarried, Agricultural Labourer born Bluntisham, Cambridgeshire 1864 "Red Lion", Mill End, Chatteris (Chatteris Pubs Past and Present) 1871 Mill End, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Living with Robert there were three visitors and two lodgers. The visitors were Mary BATES. unmarried, Age 56, Housekeeper, Robert BATES married, Age 34, Ag Lan and Maria BATES, Age 11, Ag Lab, all three born Ely, Cambridgeshire. The Lodgers were William CRESSWELL, unmarried Age 38, Plasterer, born Birmingham, Warwickshire, and Charles GALE Age 45, Labourer, born St Neots, Huntingdonshire. 1881 North Witchford Union Workhouse, Doddington, Cambridgeshire. Twenty five male Paupers are listed, mainly from Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire but one from Lincolnshire and two from Ireland. They included: Agricultural Labourers 18, Bricklayers Labourers 1 Sawyer 1 Lawyers Clerk 1, Baker 1, Tailor 1 Groom 1 and Robert who ws a Publican and Butcher. Their ages were 53, 62(3), 65, 68, 69, 70(2), 73(3), 74, 77(2), 78, 80, 81, 82(2), 83, 85(2), 86(2) (Robert was 82)
