  1. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
1851 Census - Ivy House, High Street, Tonbridge, Kent
1861 Census - "No 2 The Terrace, Tonbridge, Kent.
Marriage date and Mary's maiden name from the IGI.
  2. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
Marriage date and Mary's maiden name from the IGI.
  3. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
    1851 Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
1871 Census - Stockland Green, Speldhurst, Kent. Also with Thomas and Elizabeth was Elizabeth SNASHALL niece, aged 27, born Notting Hill, Middlesex and Henry STAPLEY, nephew, age 4 born Wimbledon, Surrey. I have found on the BMD that a Thomas Richard CHITTENDEN married Elizabeth SNASHALL in 1849, so the niece on this Census must be from a brother of Elizabeth. Still have to find the STAPELY connection.
    1881 Not found at present
1891 Back View, The Common, Southborough, Kent. With the family was a Theodosia CANDLER, aged 17, a Niece, born Tonbridge, Kent and an Ethel C MAPLESDON, a Great Niece aged 7 born East Grinstead, Sussex. (Cannot find Thomas and Elizabeth on the 1881 or 1901 Census. I have searched for Theodosia CANDLER on the 1881 and 1901 Census without success. As she is down as a niece I wonder if she was a daughter of Mary Ann CHITTENDEN born 1834. Of course she could be a niece through Thomas's wife Elizabeth SNASHALL, all I have found to date is the birth on the BMD which is of Theodosia Constance CANDLER born March quarter 1874, Tonbridge district, Kent.
  4. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
1861 Bordyke Road, Tonbridge, Kent. There was also a boarder, a Harriet CARDEN, age 32, a Dressmaker, born Tonbridge, Kent and a Servant a Serith? WAGHORN, aged 19 an Apprentice, born Yalding, Kent with the family.
1871 30 Etrusia Street, Battersea, Surrey.
1881 Devonshire Arms, Thornton Heath, Surrey
  5. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
1851 Census - Ivy House, High Street, Tonbridge, Kent
Found a marriage for a Mary Ann CHITTENDEN to a William POOLE in Tonbridge, but having looked further I do not think it was correct so have removed it. Having found finally on the Census, there was indeed a William POOLE married to a Mary Ann but she was about 10 years younger than our Mary Ann and born in Bedfordshire. I have therefore removed detail of this marriage.
  6. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
1851 Census - Ivy House, High Street, Tonbridge, Kent
1861 Census - 1 Priory Row, Tonbridge, Kent.
1871 Station Road, Tunbridge, Kent (The family other than Emily who is down as being born in Wadhurst, Sussex are all down as being born in Tunbridge, not Tonbridge, but on the previous Census, they were living in Tonbridge and Edward, Clara and John are down as being born in that town, so at present I have left them as Tonbridge. Frederick who was with Emily's father on this Census was also down as being born in Tonbridge.
1881 20 Danvers Road, Tonbridge, Kent. (All the children on this Census are down as being born in Tonbridge).
1891 20 Danvers Road, Tonbridge, Kent.
1901 75 Barden Road, Tonbridge, Kent. There was a visitor, a Clara DIXON, aged 42 married (this ties is with the Clara KETTLE, so it could be a daughter) she is down as being born in Tonbridge. Also with her is a Robert DIXON, aged 12 born Wimbledon, Surrey. Again this ties in with where the CHITTENDEN's moved to and where two of the KETTLE's were in 1871.
  7. 1841 Census - Cranbrooke, Kent
1851 Census - Ivy House, High Street, Tonbridge, Kent
1861 Census - "No 2 The Terrace, Tonbridge, Kent.
1871 Census - Kingston Road, Merton, Surrey. With the family was a Kate Ellen KETTLE who was 14 and born in Tonbridge, Kent. Her occupation is difficult to read it looks like House Situation, she is down as a niece, there was also a Frederick KETTLE who was 18 months and born in Tonbridge, he is down as nephew. My wife's Aunt has kept on at me to find out about the KETTLE's. This is the first reference I have had to them.
1881 Census. 9 Whites Cottages Raynes Park, Wimbledon, Surrey
1891Census -  Willow Cottages, Kingston Road, Wimbledon, Surrey
1901 Census - 1 Willow Cottages, Kingston Road, North Wimbledon, Surrey
1907 631 Kingston Road, Raynes Park, Surrey
Probate - Betsey Chittenden - of Raynes-park Wimbledon Surrey (wife of Henry Thorogood) died 19 January 1907 at Willow-cottage Raynes-park Probate London 23 February to Frederick Charles Thorogood assistant-engineer and William Henry Thorogood postman. Effects £1477 9s.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
