  3. Newspaper Report for Frances Elizabeth CRACKNELL
SHOCKING ACCIDENT AT THE WORKHOUSE SCHOOLS
On Monday last an inquest was held at the Workhouse Schools, Chase Side, on the body of Frances Elizabeth Cracknell, daughter of Emma Cracknell of Enfield. It appears that on Friday last the deceased was reaching some hot water out of one of the washing coppers, when her clothes caught fire by coming in contact with the furnace door. The poor child ran screaming into the yard, where she was caught, and every exertion made to extinguish the flames, but she was so dreadfully burned, and the shock to the system was so great, that she expired the same day. some comments were made by the foreman of the jury as to the employment of mere children in such work as the deceased was engaged in at the time of the accident. Eventually a verdict of accidental death was returned.

  7. Newspaper report for son of Emma CRACKNELL
Inquest - On Wednesday last an inquest was held at the Hop-poles, Baker-street, before Mr. Payne, coroner for the Duchy of Lancaster, on the body of an infant, the illegitimate child of Emma Cracknell of New-lane. It appeared from the evidence that the child was born on the previous Wednesday, and on Friday night was quite well. Between 4and 5 on Saturday morning, the mother noticed that it was rather cold, and drew it towards her to warm it, when she found that it was dead. She at once sent for the midwife, who of course could render no assistance, and Dr. Ridge was also subsequently called in. The doctor afterwards made a post mortem examination, and found death to have been caused by congestion of the heart and lungs, through suffocation. The Coroner in summing up, remarked upon the fact that this was the mother's fifth illegitimate child, and said he thought this did not speak much for the morality of Enfield. The Jury (of whom Mr. Wesson was foreman), returned a verdict of Accidental Death.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
