1924 RR1, Norwich Ontario (address given by Olive GRAVILL, the bridesmaid and given as home of brides father.
    Information from Barrie HUNSLEY 11/1/2007
In 1909 Thomas GRAVILL first came to Canada to seek a new home for his family. He went to Whitehorse in the Yukon, but, because of the cold conditions and the poor farming in that area he returned to Sproboro, England.
His dream of returning to Canada to buy his own farm, however, did not die.
In 1914, at the age of 44, Richard Thomas GRAVILL again journeyed to Canada bringing with him this time his wife Alice GRAVILL (HUNSLEY) and his six children: Clara, William, Arthur, Olive, Alice and Thomas.
They boarded the Empress of Ireland and were eight of the463 passengers who landed in Nova Scotia. The family then travelled by train to Woodstock, Ontario. There, Thomas found temporary employment to support his large family. Eventually he rented a farm from Mr. William WARING for $1.00 a day. The GRAVILLs rented a small cottage to house their growing family. Clara, the eldest daughter, went out to work in the are to help supplement the family's income. Clara was only 15 at the time.
In 1916 Thomas purchased his own farm from Frank CLARE. This new farm was actually a house with a few acres of farmland and a barn. In 1919 Thomas purchased two more acres from Frank CLARE, This property was on the North part of the 6th Concessions, Lot 19 in the Township of Norwich, County Oxford.
Richard Thomas and his family depended on this land for both their income and livelihood. Upon his death at the age of 74 in 1944, his wife, Alice GRAVILL moved to Ingersoll, Ontario to be near some of her children. She died in 1960 at the age of 86. Both are buried in Norwich Cemetery.
One hundred years after the birth of Richard Thomas GRAVILL, the writer Brent James GRAVILLE was born (1970)
  2. 1881 Crowle, Lincolnshire, living with her grandmother, Mary WHEATON
1891 The only Alice HUNSLEY found on the 1891 census is 18 (so birth around 1873 not 1875 as we  have it from the 1881 census). She is shown as being born in Scottter, Lincolnshire. She is a Nurse Domestic at Cods Hill Grammar School, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. We are not sure if this is the correct Alice.

There was a query about the birth date of Alice but on the 1911 Census she is shown as Alice W, bearing in mind that Thomas was born in the Doncaster area in 1911 with the mother given as HUNSLEY I am sure the birth I have now is the correct one. Spotbro is in the Doncaster area of Yorkshire.
  7. 1911 Spotbro, Doncaster, Yorkshire. Boarders were William VICKERS (23) born Wath, Yorkshire and Charles HIZZET
  8. The birth date we have is only approximate
There was a query about the birth date of Thomas but I have found the correct one on the BMD as the mother's maiden name is shown and it is HUNSLEY

The following information was found on a family tree on Ancestry.com, I have added the information it contains to the chart above. I have not been able to verify it.
Gladys Olive GRAVILL (parents Arthur GAVILL and Gertrude Jessie HAMILTON) born 22nd December 1924 Marlett Michigan, USA died 23rd May 1992 Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It shows that they had three other children names not shown as they are down as living. Arthur GRAVILL is shown as being born 19th July 1901 in Yorkshire, England and death 19th April 1961 in Drumbo, Ontario, Canada, his wife is shown as being born on 31st January 1897 in Ratho, Ontario, Canada and death 11th October 1933 in Drumbo, Ontario, Canada. Continuing from that Richard Thomas GRAVILL's death is shon in March 1944 in Norwich, Ontario, Canada and his wife death is shown as 1960 (no place given. It appears that Arthur GRAVILL married again in May 1935 to Viola Mae PECKHAM who was born on 13th August 1914 in Harley, Ontario, Canada and died on 5th June 1981 in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada.

There are several HUNSLEY marriages in the Woodstock, Oxford Ontario Canada area so I would think that Alice had relations which is why they went to Canada, none of them seem to be her siblings.

The following Obituary can be found on Ancestry.com. I believe this all relates to the family of Arthur Thomas GRAVILL (note 5 above) I think the Robet "Bob" Thomas GRAVILL was a son of Arthur Thomas GRAVILL

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
