Then on the 1901 Census I have on this Chart for John SHINGLETON the following 1901 83 Neville Road, Forest Gate, West Ham, Essex. Father John SHINGLETON aged 40 an Ironmoulder born St George E London, Mother Emma aged 39 born Poplar, London, Children Susan aged 16 Improver in Dressmaking born West Ham, Essex, Alice aged 14 Apprentice to Bookfolder born West Ham, Essex Mary aged 11 born West Ham, Essex and then John. Alice was a sister of Joyce’s father and my sister therefore has come to the following conclusion: "Joyce’s mother had died in May 1939, father John SHINGLTON had remarried in December 1939 and died in October 1940.....daughter Joyce had been born 1931 so she was only 9 when her father died. I don’t think John’s new wife took her in as they had only just had a child so I think Joyce was taken in by her father’s sister Alice SINGLETON who had married Victor BLITZ.....and that is why there are two names for Joyce when she married".
