  1. 1827 Bacchus Walk, Hackney, Shoreditch, London.  (baptism of George Oliver)
1828 New North Road, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Louisa Mary)
1830 Bacchus Walk, Hackney, Shoreditch, London.  (baptism of Alexander)
1833 Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Richard Stephen)
1835 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Emma Barter)
1835 Upper John street, Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (burial o Richard Stephen)
1836 Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Ralph Barter)
1839 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Frederick Barter)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
1841 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Eliza Barter)
1845 Queen's Head Walk, Shoreditch, London (baptised of Eleanor Barter)
1851 POSSIBLE but doubtful - 1851 21 Welling Street, Borough Road, St George, Southwark, London. This appears to be the correct family as the head is a George, his wife is a Jane, there is an Alex aged 20, a Ralph aged 15 and a Frederick aged 14 which all ties in with the children on the chart above, BUT Alex was married and should not have been with his parents as unmarried, What has happened to Emma and Eliza who were definitely alive at the date of this Census. George's occupation is down as a Labourer, why, he should be a Clerk of some sort and none of the children are shown as being born in Shoreditch/Hoxton etc but in Islington, Kingsland Road etc, so although to the North of the river not quite in the correct place. I therefore still have my doubts about this being the correct family and have only entered this note under George. Cannot find at present another family that matches on the 1851 Census and cannot find them on the 1861 Census although I have now found that Jane died before the 1861 Census. From the death details of George and Jane they had indeed moved to the south side of the River Thames.
  2. 1827 Bacchus Walk, Hackney, Shoreditch, London.  (baptism of George Oliver)
1828 New North Road, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Louisa Mary)
1830 Bacchus Walk, Hackney, Shoreditch, London.  (baptism of Alexander)
1833 Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Richard Stephen)
1835 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Emma Barter)
1835 Upper John street, Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (burial o Richard Stephen)
1836 Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Ralph Barter)
1839 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Frederick Barter)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
1841 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Eliza Barter)
1845 Queen's Head Walk, Shoreditch, London (baptised of Eleanor Barter)
  3. 1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
1866 19 Aske Street, Shoreditch, London (address at marriage)
    Information for Charles William SHIPWAY
1802 Baptism of Charles William SHPWAY.
1866 87A Hoxton Square, Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (address at marriage) Father William SHIPWAY deceased - Cabinet Maker
The information on the marriage of Charles William SHIPWAY to Jane Emily THOMPSON only states that they were both of full age and they were Widower and Widow respectively. So looking for a first marriage for Charles William we find he married on 11th October 1824 in St Mary Islington to a Patience Maria BUSKELL, a William SHIPWAY and a Sarah HOLMES were witnesses. So this means he must have been born around the 1800, Looking in this period we find the following baptism and birth date; bon 16th May 1898 baptised 30th March 1802 St Mary Islington, London the parents are given as William and Ann SHIPWAY. This means that Charles was around 67 years old when he married Jane who was only 41. Charles on his second marriage was a Silversmith and there is on the 1841 Census in Nicholas Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch a Charles SHIPWAY down as being 40 (ages were round up and down) as a Silvesmith. With his is his wife down as Maria (not Patience) but Maria was the second name of he wife he married in 1824 With them was an Ann BOCK aged 15. I cannot find Charles on the 1851 and 1871 Census. Charles actually died in the same year he married Jane, I have found his death as Charles W SHIPWAY in september quarter 1866 in Shoreditch district London Aged 68 so correctly down as being born in 1798. It appears that Patience Maria SHIPWAY died as Maria Patience SHIPWAY in September quarter 1849 in St Luke district, London.
  4. 1827 Bacchus Walk, Hackney, Shoreditch, London.  (baptism of George Oliver)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
  5. 1828 New North Road, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Louisa Mary)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
1851 Finsbury, Islington, London (No actual address give for Louisa at marriage)
1861 30 Flint House, Hyde Place, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch St Leonard, London. Children Clara aged 6 born Clerkenwell, London, Amy aged 4 born Kingsland, London, Eva aged 3 born Islington, London and Herbert aged 10 motns born Tower Hill, London, With the family was a James BISHOP a widower aged 62 a Servant born London and Elizabeth JONES aged 26 born Kingsland, London and Susan CAIMON aged 18 born Islington, London
1871 8 Pooles Park, pper Holloway, Islington, London. Louisa is a Widow on this Census) Children are Louisa Clara aged 15, born Islington, London, Amy E aged 14 born Islington, London, Frank A aged 7 born Shoreditch, London, Minnie Edith aged 6 born Islington, London. With the family is a Louisa S THOMPSON Niece aged 12 born St Lukes, London.

1866 Edward street, Newington, Southwark, London (at marriage)
I can find no trace, after their marriage, for this couple and Jacob BUDDELL is an unusual name which only appears a few times on Ancestry, so in 1867 a Jacob BUDDELL was imprisoned in Hertfordshire for Bigamy. This could be our Jacob BUDDELL and because of this Emma Barter BUDDELL could have reverted to her maiden name of Emma Barter THOMPSON, the marriage having been annulled, as there is a marriage for an Emma Barter THOMPSON in the September quarter 1869 in Tadcaster district Yorkshire to Francis BROWN. Again Emma Barter THOMPSON being an unusual name this could just be the correct Emma. Then to follow on from this there is a death for an Emma Barter BROWN in March quarter 1904 in Kingston district, Surrey aged 70 so born around 1834/1835 which would be correct. Cannot find anything definite for an Emma BROWN on the 1871 to 1901 Censuses, there are several possibilities, but not one with a Francis, all as a widow living in Shoreditch, London with a son, but all born in London and on the 1881 to 1901 a different name on each census. So the 1881 Census is the best possibility with a Walter BROWN born about 1870 in Shoreditch, Emma as a widow a Milliner born Shoreditch, London, which would mean that if correct Francis had died.
    Information for Jacob BUDDELL
1866 Edward street, Newington, Southwark, London (at marriage) Father John BUDDELL - Farmer
The only other entries for a Jacob BUDDELL on Ancestry is for a marriage on 1st March 1865 in Hastings Sussex to an Elizabeth WRIGHT, is this the wife he was still married to when he married Emma Barter THOMPSON.
The only two marriages on the BMD for a Jacob BUDDELL are those already mentioned
The only death for a Jacob BUDDELL is in March quarter1899 in Newton Abbot district, Devonshire in March quarter 1899 aged 56 so born in 1843 so could just be the correct Jacob.
The only two times a Jacob BUDDELL appears on a Census is in 1861 when he appears as a Lodger in Hampstead but born in 1830 and born in Shefford, Staffordshire and in 1841 when he is living in Stibbard, Norfolk born in Norfolk and down as being born in 1829 neither of which tie up with the information known about him.
  9. 1836 Hoxton, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Ralph Barter)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
  10. 1839 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Frederick Barter)
1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London
  11. 1841 Upper John Street, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, London (down as NK on this Census but as Eliza Barter was born in 1841 I am sure it is this child)
1841 John Street, Shoreditch, London (baptism of Eliza Barter)
1861 Gatlands??? Hotel, Weybridge, Surrey. Eliza was a Domestic servant along with several other servants.
1865 6 Farringdon Road, Holborn, City of London, London (at marriage)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
