    Thomas TUCKER owned the third largest fleet of fishing smacks at Ramsgate Harbour. In 1890 his smacks were listed as "Petrel", "Elsie", "Our Tom", "Our Girls", "Boy Will", "Thistle", "Lilian", "T & S.T.", "Edith", "Endeavour", "Susie" and "Ocean Star". In 1914 the list was as follows: "Our Tom", "Dewdrop" and "Jessie" owned by Susanna Hewitt Tucker, (widow of Thomas Tucker). "Our Girls", "Shamrock", "Edith", "Early Dawn", "Susie", "Florie" and "Glance" owned by Thomas Robert Tucker (son of Susanna Tucker)

    Death Severs a Link with Fishing Heyday
    With the death in a nursing home recently of Mr Thomas Robert Tucker, Ramsgate has lost another member of the town's old fishing fraternity and a direct
    link with the once flourishing industry.
    Mr Tucker who was 81, was the son of one of the more prosperous smack owners at the turn of the century, Mr Thomas Robert Tucker, sen. who died in 1905. The names of his smacks are still remembered by many. They included "Early Dawn," "Our Tom" and "Our Jessie" to mention but a few.
    Mr Tucker leaves a son, Thomas Tucker, who is a builder at Bexleyheath, and two daughter, Mrs R D Jones and Mrs W H Abbott, both of whom live at Ramsgate. A sister, Miss Lilian Tucker, lives at Ramsgate, and another sister, Mrs Ethel resides at Lowestoft.
    In appreciation of Mr. Tucker, a writer says, "Tommy could give a good account of his early days, starting work for his father at an age which wouldn't be al
    lowed today, netmaking, rope splicing-at which he was very expert-and sail-making. After hearing old Tom one must admit that work in those days among
    Ramsgate fishing folk was very hard indeed. He will be missed by many.
