  1. 1861 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent -  RG9/534 folio 43 page 9. They are indexed under Evans, instead of Adams.  The original information for this chart came from a Bryan Danton ADAMS, on the 10th September 1995.
  2. 1871 Census - 6 Church Cottages, Margate, Kent - On this Census they are correct as ADAMS and there are more children two of which I had on my original list Charles and Alice, but again the wrong years.
  3. 1881 Census - Found Edwin ADAMS living in Southampton with his wife Anne at Foundry Cottages, Southampton St Mary, Hampshire.
  4. 1881 Census - Found Albert Adams living at 15 Dane Road, Margate, Kent, he appears to have married a widow as the children living with were all named SANDWELL and were of a grown up age.
  5. 1881 Census - Found William B Adams living at 61 Milton Road, Margate St John Baptist, Kent.  Also living with them was an Elizabeth GEORGE, sister-in-law, so giving me the maiden name of Frances. she was born in 1868 in Ripple, Kent. There was also a lodger a John PIPER, born in 1859 in Bridge, Kent, also a Gas House Stoker.
  6. 1881 Census -  8 Church Street Cottages, Margate St John Baptist, Kent. There was a Frederick ADAMS, Grandson, Age 9 born Margate, Kent
  7. 1881 Census - I found this family living at 26 Church Street, Margate, Kent. It was the only Jane S of the right age born in Margate. Checking on the BMD site there was a marriage between ad Edward William WILLIAMS and a Jane Smith ADAMS, so this must be the correct couple. I would not think there would be another Jane Smith ADAMS. I will try and also find them on the 1871 Census. Details for the 1881 Census are as follows: Edward William WILLIAMS age 34 an Engine driver Gas Works, born Great Mongeham, Kent, Jane S WILLIAMS wife, age 33 born Margate, Kent, Edward W WILLIAMS, son, age 11, scholar, born Margate, Kent, George E WILLIAMS, son, age 9 born Margate, Kent, Sarah K WILLIAMS, age 7, born Margate, Kent, Helen WILLIAMS, age 2 born Margate, Kent, Ernest H WILLIAMS, son, age 2 months, born Margate, Kent.
  8. 1881 Census - 5 Horns Cottages, Margate St John Baptist, Kent. Again certain this is the correct family as the marriage on the BMD site is for a Mary Barsham ADAMS who married a William Kingsford JARMAN or an Edward PIERCE. Searched for a Mary JARMAN born 1855 in Margate, Kent and the Mary B JARMAN came up. The details for the family were William K JARMAN age 27 a Builder's Labourer, born Garlinge, Kent, Mary B JARMAN, wife, age 26 born Margate, Kent, William K JARMAN son, age 2 born Garlinge, Kent, and Emily H JARMAN, daughter, age 1 born Garlinge, Kent.
  9. 1881 Census - 24 Hibernia St, Ramsgate, Kent. The BMD site shows a Sarah Catherine ADAMS marrying a Robert BRIMLEY or a Charles SISSON, Searching the Census for a Sarah BRIMLEY it comes up with a Sarah K Adams, which is the most likely as the K could match the Catherine or Kate. There were no children on the 1881 Census. Robert BRIMLEY Age 26 was born  in Bedford, Bedfordshire was a Mariner, his wife Catherine BRIMLEY, age 25 was born in Margate, Kent, Robert's sister, Mary BRIMLEY age 24 was a Domestic Servant, was born in Legrave, Bedfordshire. Will add a Chart if I find children on a later Census.
  10. 1891 Census - I found on the BMD Web site a marriage for A Charles Thomas ADAMS which I am sure is correct and I have picked a Maria Mary FEDARB as his wife from the choice of two. The reason for this is with Charles ADAMS who is down as a Widower on the 1891 Census was living with his parents, Edwin ADAMS, aged 70 a General Labourer and Mary A  ADAMS aged 68 (both born Margate, Kent, living  at 8 Church Cottages, Margate, Kent,  but there was also a Granddaughter with them aged 3, born Margate, Kent and named Maria M ADAMS, so I think she was named after her mother. Hence my reasoning for deciding that Maria Mary FEDARB was Thomas's wife.
  11. 1891 Census - 22 Church Street, Margate, Kent. The family of Edward WILLIAMS, aged 44 a General Labourer born Great Mongeham, Kent and his wife Jane S WILLIAMS, age 42 born Margate, Kent was as follows:  Edward WILLIAMS, son age 21 Laundryman, born Margate, Kent, Sarah C WILLIAMS, daughter, age 17, General Servant (Domestic) born Margate, Kent, Ellen WILLIAMS, daughter, age 13 born Margate, Kent, Ernest A WILLIAMS, age 10 Scholar, born Margate, Kent, Elizabeth J WILLIAMS, daughter, age 8 born Margate, Kent and Victor G WILLIAMS son age 4 born Margate, Kent.
  12. 1901 Census - 26 Church Street, Margate, Kent - The family of Edward WILLIAMS, age 55 a Gas Works Labourer born Great Mongeham, Kent and his wife Jane S WILLIAMS, age 54 born Margate, Kent was as follows: Ellen WILLIAMS, daughter age 22 Laundry wash, born Margate, Kent, Elizabeth WILLIAMS, daughter age 18, Laundry Wash, born Margate, Kent and Victor G WILLIAMS, son, age 14 born Margate, Kent.
  13. 1891 Census - 13 Hibenia St, Ramsgate, Kent - I have found Sarah C BRIMLEY as Wife Married on this Census. I cannot find her husband. They have children; Albert V BRIMLEY, son, age 6, Scholar, born Ramsgate, Kent, ROBERT W BRIMLEY, son age 6 Scholar, born Ramsgate, Kent, Frederick G BRIMLEY, son age 4 born Ramsgate, Kent, Nellie F BRIMLEY, daughter age 2 born Ramsgate, Kent and Emmie G BRIMLEY daughter, aged 10 months born Ramsgate, Kent.
  14. 1901 Census - 13 Hibenia St, Ramsgate, Kent - Robert is at home on this Census, I would assume he was out Fishing on the 1891 Census as he is down on this Census as a Mariner Trawler Fishing, he is 45 and down as born in Luton, Bedfordshire, his wife Sarah BRIMLEY is 44 and born in Margate, Kent. The rest of the family is all new to the 1891 Census, except the oldest which I assume is the same person, Emmie on the 1891 Census, Emma BRIMLEY, aged 10 born Ramsgate, Kent on this one, the rest of the family are; Alice BRIMLEY, age 9 born Ramsgate, Kent, Addina BRIMLEY (the Addina is very clear) age 8 born Ramsgate, Kent and Nellie BRIMLEY, age 6 born Ramsgate, Kent.
  15. 1891 Census - Edwin and Ann ADAMS are back in Minster, Kent on the 1891 Census. They are at Hampton Villas, High Street, Minster, Kent. They have an Annie MALLETT, niece, age 12 born Southampton, Hampshire living with them. There is also a Gertrude FILE, visitor, with them a General Servant Domestic, age 22 born Elham, Kent. I have noticed that in the next property there is a Kate FILE, General Servant Domestic age 24 born Elham, Kent who is a sister to I suppose the Head of the Household who is a James Philpott. Still no children for this family.
  16. 1901 Census - Ann ADAMS is a widow on the 1901 Census, living by herself at 38 King Street, Ramsgate, Kent.
  17. Left this note as note 17 so as not to change following information. The information for Note 17 was incorrect and the information on the Chart above has been changed accordingly.
  18. 1891 Census - William ADAMS is living at Milton Cottages, Arnold Road, Margate, Kent, he was still a Gas Stoker, his wife was Frances M ADAMS born Ripple, Kent. The children were Albert, son age 10 born Margate, Kent, Elizabeth ADAMS daughter age 8 born Margate, Kent, William B ADAMS, son age 6 born Margate, Ken, Charles F ADAMS son age 4 born Margate, Kent, George E ADAMS son age 3 born Margate, Kent and Robert J ADAMS, son, aged 9 months, born Margate, Kent
  19. 1891 Census - Munn's Cottage, Garlinge, Margate, Kent. William Kingsford JARMAN is a General Carter, aged 36, Mary Bartham ADAMS is 36, there two children are William Kingsford JARMAN aged 12 and Emily Morrow? JARMAN age 11 all born Margate, Kent
  20. 1891 Census - 2 Northumberland Road, Margate, Kent, they appear to have one of Charlotte's children from her first marriage with them but he does not appear to have been on the 1881 Census. Difficult to read but Ancestry.com has deciphered it as Jethro and it could be he is 28 and a Gas Inspector, born Margate, Kent. There is no one else in the household.
  21. Found a married on BMD for an Alice Mary C ADAMS , and checking on the 1891 Census it must have been to James William BUSSEY. They were living at 7 Florence Cottages, Margate, Kent. He was a Groom Domestic 26 and born in Margate, Kent. Mary BUSSEY was also 26 and born in Margate, Kent. They had a daughter and a son, Edith BUSSEY age 5 a Scholar, born in Margate, Kent and James BUSSEY age 3 born in Margate, Kent. Will add a new Chart for this family.
  22. 1901 Census - BUSSEY is down as BURSEY on the 1901 Census - Proves I have the right couple, see note 21, as there is an Emily JARMAN, niece, aged 21 a Laundry Maid Wash, born Margate, Kent living with them, who is a daughter of Mary JARMAN née ADAMS in the chart above. They were living at 21 Gate Corner? Margate, Kent. James BUSSEY is 36 and still a Groom Domestic, Alice BUSSEY, his wife is 36, born Margate, Kent. The rest of the family were: Edith BUSSEY, daughter, age 16 Laundry Wash, born Margate, Kent, James BUSSEY, son, age 13, Errand boy, Grocers, born Margate, Kent, Albert BUSSEY, son, age 1 born Margate, Kent. As well as Emily JARMAN there was a Boarder an Emma CLESSEY, aged 21, a Laundry wash, born France, (British Subject)
  23. Picked up the marriage of Eliza G ADAMS on the BMD site, by noticing an Eliza Gibbens Adams, we had the G before but GIBBENS was her mothers maiden name. On the BMD site there is only one couple on the page, so Charles Richard HARRIS must be her husband. However having got that far I cannot find Eliza and Charles HARRIS on the 1891 or 1901 Census.
  24. The same applies for Elizabeth Charlotte ADAMS, found her marriage on the same quarter and year as Eliza on note 23 above on the BMD site, and again only one other person on page, George GIBLING, but again cannot find on either the 1891 or 1901 Census. Perhaps they married together then emigrated or something like that.
  25. 1891 Census - 1891 Census -  1 Princess Street, Ramsgate, Kent.  There was  also a Grace ELRIDGE, Nurse Child, age 11, born Battersea, London and finally an Elizabeth Ann ADAMS, niece, aged 1 born Margate, Kent.
  26. 1901 Census - 1 Princess Street, Ramsgate, Kent. The family was George SMITH, age 57 Stone Mason, born Ashford, Kent, Eleanor A SMITH, age 54 born Margate, Kent, Elizabeth A ADAMS, Niece, age 12 born Margate, Kent, Frederick EASTLAND, Lodger, Age 38 stall Porter, Domestic, born Margate, Kent, Charles SETTERFIELD, lodger, aged 44 Labourer GR born Margate, Kent, Margery Bourger? Nurse Child, age 6 months, born Canterbury, Kent
  27. 1901 Census - 24 Church Street, Margate, Kent. The family was Edward WILLIAMS Head age 55 Gas Works Labourer, born Great Mongeham, Kent, Jane WILLIAMS Wife age 54 born Margate, Kent, Ellen WILLIAMS daughter age 22 Laundress Wash, own account Home born Margate, Kent, Elizabeth WILLIAMS, daughter age 18 Laundress Wash, Own Account, at Home born Margate, Kent, Victor G WILLIAMS, son age 14 born Margate, Kent.
  28. 1901 Census - 48 Northumberland Road, Margate, Kent. The family was Albert H ADAMS Head Age 49 Gas Works Engine Driver, born Margate, Kent, Charlotte ADAMS, wife married aged 69 Lodging House Keeper, At Home, born Margate, Kent, Jethro R SANDWELL, Stepson Aged 47 Gas Worker Clerk, born Margate, Kent, Julia S DIXON, Stepdaughter, age 41 Dressmaker, Own Account, At Home, born Margate, Kent, Bert O DIXON, Grandson, aged 14 Clerk, born Margate, Kent.
  29. 1901 Census - 2 Jarman's Cottage, Garlinge, Margate, Kent. The family was William K JARMAN, age 47 Carter, Own Account, born Garlinge, Kent, Mary B JARMAN wife, age 47 born Margate, Kent, William K JARMAN, son age 22 Carter, Worker born Garlinge, Kent, William K JARMAN, Father age 79 born Margate, Kent and Mary A JARMAN, mother, aged 82 born Margate, Kent
  30. 1901 Census - 96 Milton Road, Margate, Kent, William ADAMS, Head age 42 Gas Stoker, born Margate, Kent, Francis ADAMS, wife age 40 born Great Mongeham, near Deal, Kent, Albert ADAMS, son age 20 General Labourer, born Margate, Kent. William ADAMS, son age 16, Grocers, Assistant born Margate, Kent, Charles ADAMS, son age 14 Grocers Porter, born Margate, Kent, George ADAMS, son age 12 born Margate, Kent, Robert ADAMS, son age 10, born Margate, Kent, Frederick ADAMS, son age 8 born Margate, Kent, Emily ADAMS, daughter, age 4 born Margate, Kent and Edwin ADAMS, son age 2 born Margate, Kent.
  31. 1901 Census - I have found a Charles ADAMS living in Bedfordshire and married to a Louisa, I think this is the correct person, correct age and birth place, I therefore assume he married again, there were no children on the 1901 Census. The details are as follows, address, The Rectory, Sutton All Saints, Sutton, Bedfordshire. The details of people were Edward William WATSON, Head, Single age 41 Clergyman/Church of England, born Lancaster, Lancashire, Charles ADAMS, Servant, Married, age 33 Gardener Domestic, born Margate, Kent, Louisa ADAMS, Servant, married, age 31, Housekeeper, Domestic, born Little Yeldham, Essex.
  32. 1901 Census - There was an Edwin ADAMS in the Isle of Thanet Union Workhouse, Minster, Kent, he was 82, a Bricklayers Labourer, aged 82, born Margate, Kent. I think this is the right Edwin. He is down as a Widower.
  33. There are two Mary Ann ADAMS on the BMD register for the period between 1891 and 1901 would need to get certificate to see correct one, there are no other matches.
  34. 1881 Census - No 1 Belmont Terrace, St Peters, Kent - Servant
  35. 1871 Census - St Thomas's Hill, St Dunstan, Kent - I think this is the family of Maria M FEDARB, as it is such an unusual name and she is down as Maria M and is the right age, I cannot think that there would be another Maria M FEDARB. Thomas FEDARB abt 1840 Canterbury, Kent, Head occupation Whitesmith, born St Dunstan Kent, Elizabeth FEDARB abt 1838 Canterbury, Kent, Wife St Dunstan Kent, Maria M FEDARB abt 1862 Faversham, Kent, Daughter St Dunstan Kent, Emily FEDARB abt 1866 Faversham, Kent, Daughter St Dunstan Kent James J FEDARB abt 1869 Faversham, Kent, Son St Dunstan Kent, Elizabeth FEDARB abt 1871 Faversham, Kent, Daughter St Dunstan Kent.
  36. 1851 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent
  37. 1861 Census - Hampton House, 57 Hardres Street, Ramsgate, Kent. Emma Elizabeth, aged 18 is a Nurse, Domestic Servant to Henry J Bevis, an Independent Minister of the Congregational Church, Ramsgate.
  38. There is a marriage of an Emma Elizabeth ADAMS to a William HILL in the December quarter of 1866 in Thanet. At present I cannot find William and Emma on the 1871, 1881 or 1891 Census, but on the 1901 Census there is an Emma and William HILL both born in Margate, Kent living at 74 Grape Street, Hunslet, Yorkshire. The other marriage name on the BMD is for a William KENNEY but I cannot find this anywhere on the later Censuses, so I think this is the correct couple. He was a Labourer at an Engine Shop on the 1901 Census. They are both down as being 60, which makes Emma slightly older than she was as she was born in the December quarter of 1843, so still some doubt as to if this is the correct couple. Have put in above, but will search again on earlier censuses. As no children on 1901 Census there is no need for a further chart and I have put down the marriage as a possibility. (Having searched on other Censuses there is no William or Emma that fits the situation, so it seems strange that they suddenly appear on the 1901 Census. There is a William HILL on the 1871 Census who could be the correct one and he is in the Royal Navy, so it is just possibly that they were aboard for the intervening years, but although being born in 1840 in Margate, Kent he is down as single.
  39. 1871 Census -12 Vicarage Place, Margate, Kent
  40. 1881 Census -1 Churchfield Cottages, St John the Baptist, Margate, Kent
  41. 1891 Census -14 Cranbourne Alley, Margate, Kent

  1. 1851 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent
1861 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent -  RG9/534 folio 43 page 9. They are indexed under Evans, instead of Adams.  The original information for this chart came from a Bryan Danton ADAMS, on the 10th September 1995.
1871 Census - 6 Church Cottages, Margate, Kent - On this Census they are correct as ADAMS and there are more children two of which I had on my original list Charles and Alice, but again the wrong years.
1881 Census -  8 Church Street Cottages, Margate St John Baptist, Kent. There was a Frederick ADAMS, Grandson, Age 9 born Margate, Kent
1901 Census - There was an Edwin ADAMS in the Isle of Thanet Union Workhouse, Minster, Kent, he was 82, a Bricklayers Labourer, aged 82, born Margate, Kent. I think this is the right Edwin. He is down as a Widower.

Hence my reasoning for deciding that Maria Mary FEDARB was Thomas's wife.
  3. 1851 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent
1861 Census - Wheatley Place, Ramsgate, Kent -  RG9/534 folio 43 page 9. They are indexed under Evans, instead of Adams.  The original information for this chart came from a Bryan Danton ADAMS, on the 10th September 1995.

1881 Census -1 Churchfield Cottages, St John the Baptist, Margate, Kent

  4. 1871 Census - 6 Church Cottages, Margate, Kent - On this Census they are correct as ADAMS and there are more children two of which I had on my original list Charles and Alice, but again the wrong years.
1881 Census -  8 Church Street Cottages, Margate St John Baptist, Kent. There was a Frederick ADAMS, Grandson, Age 9 born Margate, Kent
The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
