  1. 1881 Census - 37 The Grove, Northfleet, Kent.
1891 Census - 37 ???, Northfleet, Kent. Alfred was not with his parents at this address.
1899 - Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent (address at baptism of Thomas)
1901 Census - 32 Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent.
1901 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Elizabeth)
1904 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Gertrude)
1905 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Maud)
1907 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Cyril)
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
Dianne gives me the following information about Alfred and Mabel: Fred and Mabel lived in Kent House, 5 Castle drive, Whitby Ellesmere Port. (Cheshire) They supposedly emigrated to Australia, prior to this. Apparently, Fred bought a gold mine there. Mabel(May) wanted to join her 2 brothers who were there already. One was director of music I think at Sydney opera house. The mine didn’t do very well so May returned home without Fred on the SS Osterley 2 weeks before my father was born- hence his name Osterley. Fred followed on later.
  2. 1881 73 Shepherd Street, Northfleet, Kent. There was a Visitor with the family a Richard R BARVEY born 1862 Gravesend, Kent
1891  59 Charles Street, Stone, Kent.
1899 - Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent (address at baptism of Thomas)
1901 Census - 32 Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent.
1901 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Elizabeth)
1904 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Gertrude)
1905 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Maud)
1907 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Cyril)
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
We know that this family moved to Ellesmere Port, Merseyside, sometime between 1915 and 1920. We should know a lot about them, as my wife's mother appears to have kept in contact with them for many years. However, her diaries contain many names, most of them shortened, so we are not certain what their full names were - the following are just a few notes that we have copied. (Having obtained the parish records for St Botolph, Northfleet, and looked at the Census for 1901 and the BMD the information on this Chart has grown since I wrote this note and several things have been confirmed)
Lived in Ellesmere Port, Merseyside, Maud THOROGOOD stayed for a holiday at 2 Priestfield Road, Ellesmere Port on late September 1920. This therefore suggests that this was their address at that time.
Address, but date unknown - 4 King Street, Prescot, Lancashire. From a letter to Maude and Albert THOROGOOD when Sheila and Jacqueline had Scarlet Fever, as Clifford's name not mentioned, suggests letter written between 1939 and 1945.
The children listed above are from what various relatives have mentioned. I have found Victor and Gerty on the BMD so have an idea when these two children were born. The rest of the family and the marriages are really at this time only a guess and could be wrong, for instance we only have Cissy for that child, but Doris is quite a usual name to be shortened to Cissy and there is one in Strood which is the correct area. Again Gertrude Eileen BARNARD was born in Strood and there is a marriage in Ellesmere Port for a Gertrude BARNARD, so as she moved there assume this is the correct marriage. Told there was a Nina and although I cannot find a birth there is marriage in Ellesmere Port for a Nina BARNARD, so again assume that this could be the correct person. etc. Have since found in the BMD as a definite as it shows Nina as born in 1915 which shows her mothers maiden name as STEDMAN

  3. 1898 - Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent (address at baptism of Alfred)
  4. 1899 - Factory Road, Northfleet, Kent (address at baptism of Thomas)
  5. 1901 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Elizabeth)
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
St Botolph Parish Church records and the BMD
  6. 1904 - 25 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Gertrude)
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
  7. 1905 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Maud
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
Doing more research I have found on the BMD Deaths 1984 to 2005 the death of a Maud Grace K BIGGINS in 1988. This must be the same Maud as above as birth date etc ties up
  8. 1907 - 34 Dover Road East, Northfleet, Kent. (address at baptism of Cyril)
    1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
  9. Believe this is a child of this family.
  10. 1911 - 1 Wakefield Street, Gravesend, Kent
On 20th August 2007 I was contacted by a Dianne EVANS née BARNARD a daughter of Sydney BARNARD, I did not have him on the chart before, so it give us another child. It continues with each child being given many names. From this I looked at the BMD again and found Nina born in 1915, so the family were still in Kent in 1915. However Dianne shows that her mother was born in Cheshire, so herself in Chester so it does appear that we have it correct and the family moved to the North East of England. Then having been given a clue that the BARNARD family had moved from Northfleet (Strood district) to Gravesend I searched for BARNARD born in the Gravesend district about 1913 with 5 years either side and have come up with yet another child, Henry born in 1917. He has the initials Henry J S so again it appears as though he has at least three Christian names. As it is in 1917 it shows his mothers maiden name as STEDMAN
  11. Doing more research I have found on the BMD Deaths 1984 to 2005 the death of a Nina Eunice P FOSTER in 2005. This must be the same Nina as above as birth date etc ties up. This confirms that she married a FOSTER but at this stage I cannot find where I found the three possible marriages in Ellesmere Port. (I am having some problems with the County that Ellesmere Port is in, Lancashire or Cheshire. Perhaps like Peterborough is has changed counties over the years)
  12. Possible address - 24 Deeside, Ellesmere Port, Merseyside.

On 23rd August 2007 Dianne EVANS née BARNARD contacted me again with more information about the BARNARD family. She has answered one of my biggest problems and that was of the son Victor who I could find no real details of but my mother-in-law insisted was part of the family. I had a chart on for him, as I was told he was born in 1901, however I have now been told that he was born in 1917 and this ties up with some of the information I had on his Chart. As I am told he is still alive I have however now removed the chart for his family.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
