  1. 1871 High Street, Wormley, Hertfordshire.
  2. 1861 Rectory, Little Waltham, Essex.
  3. 1891 White House Farm, Baddow Road, Chelmsford, Essex. Frederick THOROGOOD aged 26 Railway Clerk born Wormley, Hertfordshire, Emily aged 29 born Felstead, Essex and Mary THOROGOOD, mother a widow a Retired Publican born Boreham, Essex
  4. 1881 Census - Oakhams Farm, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, Essex,
  5. 1851 Census - Newland Street, Witham, Essex.
  6. 1841 Census - Boreham, Essex.
  7. 1861 Census - The Village, Wormley, Hertfordshire. See comment on Thorogood Chart 0401. However I now think that James and Ann were visiting a relation, possibly a daughter, Ann SURRIDGE a widow a licensed victualler is head of household, (if it had been a son the surname would be SORRELL).  She was 33 so born about 1828 which falls nicely between the Mary we are most interested in and the next child as it appears on the Census John. I am going to add this child. She had two children on this Census. Ann, Aged 4 and George aged 2 both born in Wormley, Hertfordshire. (Have now found the marriage, so even more certain I have it correct). Definitely correct, see Note 20.
  8. 1841 Census - Boreham, Essex (HO107; Piece: 325; Page: 17)
  9. 1851 Census - Culver Collery?, Boreham, Essex
  10. A George appears on the 1841 Census aged 1, and a George on the 1851 as aged 7. Having found a George on a later Census born in 1844 in Boreham, I have assumed that the first one died and I have shown this above
  11. 1851 Census - 11 Sandford Mill, Springfield, Essex. Elijah was a Lodger to a William WENDON and family on this Census
  12. 1851 Census - Boreham, Essex. (No address but next to Parsonage Cottage) Ann was a Servant to a Maria HASELFOOT, a widow, aged 64.
  13. BMD - I think this must be the correct marriage.
  14. 1861 Census - Near Sandford Road, Boreham, Essex.
  15. 1861 Census - Brook End, Springfield, Essex. (see not 13 - now found on 1861 Census so confirming marriage)
  16. 1861 Census - Near Sandford Mill, Village, Great Baddow, Essex. There was also a Eliza Jane BIRD, niece, aged 7 born Great Waltham, Essex.
  17. 1851 Census - Church End, Great Waltham, Essex. There is a Hannah SORRELL as a Servant at this address which is possibly this Hannah, she is the correct age but is down as being born in Great Waltham. As all the other children have been in Boreham, I have a slight doubt if this is the correct Hannah.
  18. 1861 Census - Near Sandford Mill, Village, Great Baddow, Essex. I looked for a marriage for Hannah and found this one, certain this is correct as on this Census they are living at the same place as John SORRELL and family. No children on this Census.
  19. 1871 Census - Baddow Road, Great Baddow, Essex.
  20. 1871 Census - 5 Brunswick Place, Hoxton New Town, Shoreditch St Leonard, London. This is quite a find as Ann's parent are still with her, she has married again, her first two children Ann and George are still with her but are down as ATKINS not SURRIDGE. Ann and John have two of their own children Agnes aged 6 born Shoreditch, London and Florence 4 also born Shoreditch.
  21. 1871 Census - Crystal Palace Road, St Giles, Camberwell, Lambeth, London - Charles and Esther had moved to Camberwell.
  22. 1871 Census - Spring Street, Springfield, Essex.  There was also a boarder a James GIGGINS, aged 61? a Farm Labourer born Hatfield, Essex.
  23. 1881 Baddow Road, Chelmsford, Essex.. Hannah was a widow on this Census.  Frederick THOROGOOD, aged 15 a Scholar born Wormley, Hertfordshire (see THOROGOOD Chart 0401) was also with the family.
  24. 1881 Census - Oakhams Farm, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, Essex, Mary a widow was a visitor with Elijah SORRELL
  25. 1881 Census - 15 Appleby Road, Hackney, Middlesex.
  26. 1891 Census - 110 Victoria Street, St Margaret and St John the Evangelist Westminster, London. Other members of the Household, were  Elizabeth OXENHAM, niece, aged 14 born Bristol, Gloucestershire and a lodger a Henry J BARRINGTON, aged 19 a Messenger, born London.
  27. 1891 Census - Farm House, Baddow Road, Great Baddow, Essex.
  28. Having looked at most of the Censuses, there are very few other SORRELL's born in Boreham, Essex. James keeps cropping up, so although I have at present no definite way to connect him to the family I feel he must be a son of James and Ann, I have therefore added him to the family. I will then add the what I have found out about him on the other Censuses.
  29. 1841 Census - Great Waltham, Boreham, Essex
  30. 1851 Census - Village, Broomfield, Essex
  31. 1861 Census - Widmore Lane, Palace, Bromley, Kent. He appears to be in the Lodge. The first person listed is a Sarah SORRELL, Lodgekeeper, aged 40 born Wroughton Wiltshire, she is down as married but no husband with her. I would think her husband is possibly another child of this family.  Having looked at the 1871 Census I have now decided that James was in fact the husband of Sarah, although it does not show it. See note 32
  32. 1871 Census - No 80 entrance lodge to Palace, Widman Road, Bromley, Kent. On this Census Sarah born Wroughton, Wiltshire is the wife of James.
  33. 1881 Census - 14 East Street, Bromley, Kent. - Sarah was a widow. There was a visitor with them an Ellen A MUGGLIGTON?, aged 23 born Kensington, Middlesex.

That is as far as I am going with this chart at the present time. I do not think I can find any more families on the Census returns, but will check again when I put the actual charts of for the families.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
